General Questions

Answers to all of your Frequently Asked Questions. The most common problems that people encounter are all covered in this Frequently Asked Questions page. If you cannot find an answer to your frequently asked questions here, contact me through the contact page. Link is in the footer.

What equipment do I need in order to use the content on Simpledrummer®?

You don't need much. Ideally you have a drum kit and a place to practice sometimes. Most of the learning content on the site is in video format. You will need a device that is connected to the internet with a strong enough signal to stream video.

Many of the videos in each lesson are play-along practice videos. They are intended for you to practice along to. In order to do this, you will need a pair of headphones (preferred) or earbuds (not ideal) so that you can hear the drumming in the video while you play on your own drums, practice pad, steering wheel (only when parked) or couch cushion.

Do I need my own drum kit before I start learning how to play the drums?

No, you don’t. All you need is a pair of drumsticks. You could learn the first few lessons by playing with just your sticks on a chair and a few pillows.

There are other ways to access a drumkit without buying one. You can often rent drums from your local music shop for a temporary solution. You could also offer a donation to your local church or school in exchange for practice time on their drums during off hours.

Membership and Content

What do I get when I purchase a pass and become a member?

Unlimited access to ALL pre-recorded lesson videos and play-along videos on the site 24 hours a day. Most of the lessons include .PDF sheet music and may include other downloadable content such as .MP3s, which are all made available to you anytime. Your dashboard area will help you personalize your profile, track your progress in active lessons and archive all completed lessons.

What if I have no experience or I don't know what skill level I am?

You don’t need any drumming or musical experience to get started or become a member. If you are a complete newbie, then the place for you to start would be our Simple Basics category.

These lessons are specially designed for people who have never learned anything about drumming or music. For those with some drumming experience, you do not need to choose a skill level when you become a member. You get access to all skill levels (1-5) which covers a wide range of Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced content. Learn more about our skill level system.

Is there a contract or a fixed term when I become a member?

No, membership is on a month-to-month basis and you can cancel anytime to immediately stop future payments. There are however, passes that offer a discount for a fixed term of membership (ie. 6 month pass OR Annual Pass). You can still cancel at any time, but you will lose the corresponding discount if you cancel before the end of the specified term.

Can I view lessons on my Mac/Windows or tablets and mobile devices?

Yes. You can watch the lessons on any device as long as you have an internet connection. We recommend a minimum of 4Mb/s internet speed. Less will still work but videos may appear grainy on a larger screen. Test your internet speed here.

Fast tempo play-alongs are usually a tempo that is either relevant to a song OR a tempo that is a good achievement with whatever you’re learning. Think of these as little tests or challenges. You should have practiced the material enough to play it at the recommended fast tempos. If you have practiced something a lot and can’t quite get it fast enough, then leave it as a work in progress. Practice something else and come back to it again later. If the fast tempos are no problem, then the sky is the limit and if you can take it further, then go for it!

Can I download the lesson content and videos?

You can download any PDF sheet music and .mp3s associated with any given lesson. Presently, our videos are a stream-only service. You can watch anything you want, from any computer or mobile device as long as you are logged into your account.

Is simpledrummer.com available in my country?

Yes. simpledrummer.com is available worldwide and our members come from all over the world. All you need is a computer or mobile device and an internet connection.
